A safe space for healing: SASS

SASS was born from a powerful truth: survivors of sexual assault deserve more than just survival. We understand the barriers and frustrations within existing systems, and we are here to provide a sanctuary where healing is not just possible, but prioritized. Discover how SASS is changing the narrative for survivors in Kentucky and beyond.

Beyond survival mode: our mission

SASS was inspired by a painful gap: survivors often face long waitlists, inappropriate facilities, and a lack of trauma-informed care. We believe you deserve better than survival mode. Our main goal is simple yet powerful: to create a safe space where survivors are believed, supported, and given real resources to heal, without judgment or additional trauma. We provide immediate practical support, trauma-informed emotional care, and safe environments, fostering community, advocacy, and long-term healing. We are solving the problem of survivors being forced to navigate trauma alone or being harmed again by systems meant to help.

Survivor-led, trauma-protective care

What makes SASS truly different? We were created by a survivor, for survivors, and that lived experience shapes every decision. Unlike systems built around rules or funding, SASS is built around your needs, safety, and autonomy. We don’t ask, “What’s available?” We ask, “What is safe, humane, and healing for survivors right now?” Our approach ensures survivors choose what support looks like, without pressure or timelines. We also prioritize trauma-protective environments, intentionally creating calm, respectful spaces that are not mixed with violent or high-risk populations, ensuring emotional and physical safety. Healing shouldn’t require enduring more fear.

Immediate support, dignity & community

SASS removes barriers, providing immediate, practical support when you need it most. We offer care packages, essential items, and resource navigation without judgment or red tape, reducing stress in the earliest, most fragile moments. At SASS, survivors are believed—period. You are never blamed, rushed, or minimized; your stories are honored, not exploited. We protect your dignity as fiercely as your safety. Healing doesn’t happen alone, so SASS fosters community through peer-supported spaces, education, and advocacy, reducing stigma and silence. We don’t just help individuals—we help change the culture around sexual assault.

"You are not broken. You are not alone. And you deserve safe support."

We hope you understand that SASS exists because the current system often fails survivors, and we are here to fill that gap with care, safety, and dignity. For survivors, we want you to feel seen, safe, hopeful, and empowered. For supporters and donors, we hope you feel moved and motivated to be part of the solution. Whether you’re a survivor ready to reach out, a supporter sharing our mission, or a donor understanding your impact, we invite you to take a meaningful step. SASS is a place where survivors are believed, protected, and supported—without conditions.
